I had no idea there were so many other ways to say "sex" without actually using the word sex... Horizontal shuffle might be my new favorite.

Oh God yes. Ridiculous. Many of us had to find workarounds for that back in the day (like helping out the zillions of bi-curious married women who are on cishet hookup sites). GrindHer would find an audience.

YES! And according to bi activists/scholars like Shiri Eisner, “bi-curious” falls under the bi umbrella! So I think something like GrindHer (excellent name lol) would have an audience of lesbian and Bi+ women alike!

Thank you for this, it was a super interesting read. I do think some more acknowledgement of the specialization of lesbians in porn would have been apt here though. Yes, agreed, in some senses the lesbian bed death narrative is a dominant one. However at the same time, ‘girl on girl’ is also one of the most popular categories on porn sites. Lesbian women have to handle the contrasting realities of being either completely lacking in sexuality OR highly sexual but only for men’s pleasure.

I also think that the lack of opportunity for casual sex might be in part a geographic thing? Back when I was out there lol I used to be able to find fellow lesbians who were open to more casual sex pretty easily on tinder. Not sure though if that’s because I live in a pretty large, queer city? Interesting to think about!

Pride and feminism took the same wrong turn: embracing “porn”. Now they’re both discredited by that and are getting serious pushback.
